Margaret
Margaret usually plays for Tottington Band but has been actively involved with our youth band for some time. Mags is also our regular horn dep.
Roger Albiston
Roger began playing with Middleton Band in 1964, after playing for a couple of years with Gill Street Methodist Band in Moston where be started playing at the age of 8.
He left Middleton Band in 1975 for a spell of playing in dance bands, but returned in 1987 and has stayed ever since.
Roger likes playing music by Eric Ball and has a fondness for unusual marches – he says “Raby” is one of favourites. Roger’s least favourite music is anything by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and modern pieces by Dutch or Norwegian composers.
John Cooney (Retired)
John is one of the trio who revived the band about 15 years ago, and continues to be one of the main driving forces behind its success today.
John is a former band Chairman, principal percussionist, librarian, doorkeeper chief transport engineer, and doubles up as the band’s Enforcer in times of need.
John is a relative newcomer to brass bands, having played most of his musical career in dance bands and in clubs etc for singers and acts all over the place.
Not surprisingly, John’s favourite band piece is “Cute” where he gets to show off his fantastic skills on the kit.
Also not surprisingly, John doesn’t like playing hymn tunes because there’s not much for him to play!
David Taylor Bb Bass (retired from contesting)
David has also mistakenly left his biography to the mercy of the web team…..
David joined Middleton Band in 2006 from Moston and Beswick band. He has not yet divulged his full banding pedigree to us but has been the band’s treasurer for several years now.
Maybe we should charge him extra for completing his biography!
John Tennant, super dep!
Awaiting official biography…. however, John has been a stalwart of the band for many years and can be relied upon to help us out at a moments notice playing Euphonium, Baritone, Bass or even Trombone! The only thing we just cant get him to play is Sop, “Because you have to be mental to play one of those.”
John has also been known to compère at our Race night events.
Geoff Harisson
Geoff recently received his long service medal and diploma of honour for 60 years service to banding from Peter Bates chairman of the NWABBA.
Peter Brown
Peter has been a loyal supporter for several years now. Not only does he help with equipment and music at rehearsals but Peter is our very own contest draw-master and cheering party! Pete has not missed a contest yet and he is brill at estimating the placings!
Peter has also recently taken up the cornet and can be found tooting away at youth band!!
