Martyn Evans
The band wish to formally welcome Martyn to the fold and are looking forward to moving forward together. Martyn brings a wealth of experience with him and has enjoyed plenty of success with previous bands.
Martyn studied music and the principles of education at Manchester University and after four years of study was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Education.
In 1979 he joined the teaching staff at Oldham Council Music Centre, an organisation which he now helps to lead in his current post as Deputy Director of Music.
During the past three decades, in addition to fulfilling a busy teaching schedule Martyn has continued to freelance as a player in Brass Bands, Orchestras and Big Bands.
In 1996 he was invited to take up the baton with the newly reformed Ashton-Under-Lyne brass band. This partnership was to prove very successful. He led the band to numerous contest victories including three consecutive National titles of Champion Band of Great Britain in 1997 1998 and 1999.The most recent title made brass band history. Since records began Martyn and the Ashton-Under-Lyne Band are the only conductor and band to have won three consecutive National titles in the Third, Second and First Sections.
Martyn continues to fulfil a busy freelance schedule as a teacher, adjudicator and conductor and is currently enjoying his role as musical director of Middleton Brass Band.
