Training Band & Beginners

Beginners

We welcome beginners at Middleton and offer lessons and instruments to absolute beginners aged approx. 7 upwards, free of charge!

The beginners team offer lessons on Monday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.00pm. Beginners are taught the basics required to be able to read music and play their chosen instrument properly. When beginners can read and play approximately 4/5 notes fluently they can then progress  into the training band.

Training Band

The training band was formed in 2004 by senior band Soprano cornet player Louise Crane in response to an influx of young people wishing to learn brass instruments. The training band welcomes any beginner brass player who has had a few lessons from the age of 7 upwards.

The training band rehearses on a Monday evening from 7.00 pm - 8.00pm.

Middleton Youth Band

Youth Band Christmas 09

The Middleton Youth Band is a very important part of the music making community in Middleton and is a valuable asset to the "senior" band.  Even though the two bands are administratively separate, they are very closely linked with the "senior" band supporting the Youth band in many ways.  The young people of the youth band benefit from the experience of several members of the senior band, regularly seeing David, Louise, Kevin, John, Emma, Jamie and Sam in rehearsals and many others at concerts.

The musical director of the Youth Band is Mr David Wall, who has spent many hours with these young people at rehearsals. David  joined the Middleton Youth Band as a youngster playing Flugel Horn before progressing into the senior Middleton band. David now leads the youth band in regular concerts, charity events and weekend trips including the Severn Valley Railway and East Lancashire Railway 1940's events.

With the help and support of several Middleton Band players, the youth band has grown steadily and  has even toured to Euro Disney Paris twice!
